In India children are suffering a great deal in the second wave of COVID-19 that has hit India like a storm. The situation is desperate.
Over 300,000 people are being infected every day. Hospitals are turning away patients because they are completely overwhelmed. Oxygen is in short supply. Death toll have tragically surpassed 200,000 a week.
The pandemic is likely to be even more damaging for children’s mental health as many children lose their parents or guardians. As poverty deepens, the plight of the most disadvantaged families will worsen.
In India, Save the Children is working with sub-national & local governments and communities across the country. Your support will help our teams on the ground to:
- Enable access to health care services and supplying infected children and their families COVID Home Care Kits (incl. oxygen concentrator, medicine etc.)
- Provide cash, food and nutrition support to families whose livelihoods have been severely impacted by COVID-19
- Support children whose parents or caregivers are affected (hospitalization or death) including counselling and psychosocial support, identifying those children and arranging appropriate rehabilitation in institutional foster care through referral.
- Help in rolling out/ fast-tracking of vaccination for most marginalized people.
