During this year effects of corona virus have touched our daily lives in many ways. As one side effect, many people have lost their normal source income, leaving them to state of insecurity. To help these people to recover the sudden state of uncertainty, Save the Children Finland has increased its support to less-privileged families and to those whose economic situation has suddenly gotten worse because of the changes caused by corona virus.
With the support of Stora Enso’s donation and through the network of our volunteers, we are now providing food support in more than 50 municipalities around Finland to help the families through the most difficult times. The food vouchers for families can be used in most common grocery stores available at the region.
In Africa, Stora Enso’s donation enables Save the Children’s support to the most vulnerable families in 10 communities affected by drought, flash floods and conflict in Somalia. With this support, Save the Children will address the urgent basic needs to prevent further food insecurity, malnutrition, poor health and gender-based violence among communities. The project will also focus on awareness raising on child feeding, appropriate care practices and prevention and response to violence and abuse.
‒ On behalf of children and families in Finland and Somalia, I would like to thank Stora Enso for their recent donation, says Anne Haaranen, Director of International Programmes at Save the Children Finland.
